Strijp-T is a unique area with a distinct character, originally developed to meet the operational needs of Philips. With its diagonal layout, the area is unique and forms a special place in Eindhoven with its own identity. The area is characterized by its strong connection to the Eindhoven and its growth. At the same time, it also has the unique feature of being located within the green corridor, which links the city and the surrounding countryside and the green Brabant landscape.
The TX Building, built during the post-war reconstruction period, is centrally located within the Strijp T ensemble and is primarly distinguished by its large size and scale. The building, which is extended to 300 meters in length (originally 270 meters) and 67.5 meters wide, was developed and built by Philips with the aim of producing machines for various departments.
TX Building has long served as a foundation for the development and production of new technologies and devices. The transformation of TX aims to preserve this identity, integrating it to the 'make, create, and innovate industry'. The divided industrial hall including three newly added towers with additional work floors will become a platform for the innovative industry.
The architectural approach for the transformation of the TX building focuses on identifying existing, characteristic design elements and qualities, and building on these elements. We view innovation not as replacing the old, but as incorporating the wisdom of the past. Thus, among other things, the existing structure and shed roof are preserved, keeping the original language and horizontal character of the building intact. On top of this long “original” industrial hall, 3 additional work buildings will be added.
To strengthen the east-west connection on the Strijp T site, the building is broken open in the middle. Here a public passage has been created where a lively, vital and attractive public space with space for meeting, working, lunch and events is created. Whereas in the past building TX formed a physical barrier between the east and west sides of Strijp-T, in the future it will become the central meeting place of the area.
